Albino Rocca Barbaresco DOCG Montersino

The story of the Rocca family started in Barbaresco during the 1940s, with Giacomo Rocca producing wines from the family vineyard, which continued over the years by his son. During the 1960s, Albino inherited a few sites around Barbaresco, mainly increasing the holdings of the Roccas. Furthered was the work his son Angelo put in the vineyards by limiting the number of herbicides and fungicides used. It ultimately pushes for better winemaking and ageing techniques. The first single-cru bottling happened in the 1980s with the 'Bric Ronchi' and 'Loreto' vineyards and, in 2004, only used the large 20 hectolitres barrels. Today, Monica, Daniela, Paola and Carlo run the estate. The Montersino site is one of Rocca's vineyards from the municipality of San Rocco Seno d'Elvio which was first produced in 2012. The vines were planted in 1998 and are located on South-West facing, marly slope. The wine is aged for 20 months in large German and Austrian oak barrels and left to settle in bottle for 9 months.
