Chateau Langoa-Barton

The Barton family is a long-standing name within the Bordeaux landscape. Originating from Ireland, Thomas Barton moved to France to establish his vision in the early years of the 18th century. His heir Hugh followed his father's steps and bought Chateau Langoa in 1821, as well as a plot from Leoville's property in 1826, renaming it 'Leoville Barton'. Following Napoleon's order to value and classify the best Chateaux in Bordeaux in preparation to the Exposition Universelle de Paris in 1855, Langoa-Barton became Saint-Julien's Third Growth. It placed the family at the top of the hierarchy ladder, alongsidethe other important names of the region. A few generations later, Anthony Barton's daughter, Lilian took over the running operations of both properties. Chateau Langoa Barton's vineyards are planted with 54% of Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% of Merlot, 11% of Cabernet Franc averaging 37 years of age. 2012 signed a change in the vineyard operations: more under vine cultivation and less spraying with a strong focus on sustainability. All fruits are hand-harvested, carefully brought to the winemaking facilities, vinified separately and blended after 18 months maturation in 60% new oak barrels. 2006 is a strong blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (30%) and Cabernet Franc (5%).
