MR Claremont’s notes

Since 1979, Bass Phillip Wines has become a strong household in the Australian wine industry, particularly for Victorian Pinot Noirs. While Phillip Jones brought the Estate to its current heights, he sold the vineyards to the mythical Burgundian Domaine of Jean-Marie Fourrier in 2020. This wine is, therefore, the official first vintage of the Fourier family, and there is no doubt that 2020 will become a collector's wine. The fruits for the 'Estate' come from the Leongatha vineyard, and the best barrels were selected to become this Cuvee. You will notice the classic, heady nose of red flowers and earthy elements—a wine you would want to age for a few years.

Fruit off the Leongatha vineyard, destemmed, wild-yeast fermented, left 2 weeks on skins and aged in French oak, 25% new, for 14 months. A selection of the best barrels was then put aside for the Estate. Striking aromatics set the scene: a heady mix of florals, forest floor, blood orange and spiced cherries. The palate unfurls with a core of sweet-savoury flavours from fruit and oak, fine tannins and everything superbly integrated and aligned. There’s complexity, detail and definition all in one.'
