Domaine Faiveley Mercurey Clos Rochette Blanc

Pierre Faiveley founded Maison Joseph in 1825, and son after his son, Joseph, took over the reins and began the merchant business. Following the inception was a raft of generational pass-overs and vineyard acquisitions, some more important than others. The Faiveleys were essential actors in Burgundian society and the wine industry. For instance, 1934 was the year when Georges Faiveley founded the 'Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin' to showcase wines they couldn't sell during economic instability. Francois Faiveley became the new managing director in 1976 and purchased important monopoly vineyards such as 'Clos des Issarts' and 'Clos de l'Ecu'. 2004 saw Erwan in full charge of the Domaine with his sister. Together they are driving the quality of the vineyards and winemaking management to the next level. The vision is to produce purer and more polished wines than his predecessors did. One of the significant milestones they achieved is to be certified in 2019 as 'High Environmental Value', which rewards sustainable companies. 'Clos Rochette' is a 5.45 hectares monopole vineyard in Mercurey owned by the Faiveley family since 1993. The soils here are the classic Burgundian clay-limestone rich, where Chardonnay finds its best terroir. Vines were planted consecutively in 1960, 1987, 1999, 2009 and 2017. The fruits are hand-harvested, pressed and fermented with their native yeasts in barrels. The maturation happens in 25% new oak barrels for sixteen months, with regular lees stirring.
